I almost had Meredith say “Oh, my!” in the last panel but I thought it disingenuous. After all, someone NOT familiar with TOS and Sulu(as your general TNG fan would be, or wouldn’t be, as the case may be) wouldn’t necessarily know the whole Oh My bit, so swishy made much more sense for her to say.
But it was touch and go until it was inked, let me tell you.
Though I will say the Oh My keeps popping up in our DDE game as one of the NPC apparently is an elf that talks like Takei. Only in D&D, right?
While I’m a devout fan of TNG, I’ve made attempts at watching TOS from time to time. A lot of the episodes just don’t click with me, though, and I think I know why.
While watching Trek Nation, it came up that Westerns were very popular in the 60s, when TOS was trying to get on the air, and the early series had that space as the new wild west concept. To say that I hate Westerns might be a bit strong, but I definitely do NOT like them, have never enjoyed them, and have nothing but negative associations with them. While my feelings on TOS are not quite that strongly opposed, maybe this new-found understanding will help me appreciate TOS for what it was, in spite of the era that founded it.
Or maybe I’ll just stick to TNG.
Oh, looks like Archer’s got some plans for our Meredith!
